New Palm Springs Casino Opens
With the sniping of a giant purple ribbon, members of the agua caliente band of Cahuila Indians celebrated the official grand opening of the new $95 million spa resort casino.
At a morning ceremony attended by more than 200 tribesmen and city officials, Tribal Council President Richard M. Milanovic said the casino opening was the culmination of more than eight years of hard work and planning by tribal leaders.
He also said that since the tribe has dealt with numerous state political and economic hurdles, a significant leap of faith was needed to ensure that the project moved forward at the start.
"We decided to invest more than a third of the tribe's money, and there was no way to know for sure if this would work," he said.
The 130,000-square-foot gaming facility includes a new entertainment lounge, four restaurants, 1,000 slot machines and 30 table games.
Casually elegant and luxurious, the casino was designed by Costa Mesa-based architecture firm Wimberly Allison Tong & Go, which has worked in the past for the Ritz-Carlton Hotel and Las Vegas landmarks such as Venice and Caesars Palace.
"I heard it was likened to a Las Vegas location like Bellagio or Mandalay Bay or Venice," Milano Beach said at the ceremony. "But this is our casino. It's a casino in Palm Springs."
Milan Beach said the tribe has increased its marketing efforts in Los Angeles and Orange counties to attract more visitors to downtown casinos. The tribe, as well as urban economic development experts, predicted that casinos would boost business activity in downtown areas, although exact dollar figures are not available. 안전한 파워볼사이트
401 E. Amar Road, located right next to Indian Canyon Drive. The new casino, located on Amar Road, replaces the tent gaming area that was adjacent to the tribe's nearby spa resort, which opened in 1995. The tent gaming area has been closed and will eventually be emptied for parking.
